A One-Day Floral Oil Painting Workshop with Lauren Jones

Spend a day immersed in oil painting, conversation, and slow Hinterland living inside the Mapleton studio of artist Lauren Jones.

Workshop Details
8 July 2026
9:30am–4:30pm
Pear Tree Gallery, Mapleton
Limited to 10 participants
All materials + banquet lunch included

This intimate one-day workshop offers a guided introduction to Lauren's expressive alla prima painting approach, using seasonal flowers as the inspiration for a series of still life paintings. Working from beautifully arranged floral subjects and reference images, participants will learn how to simplify complex forms, mix luminous colour, create harmonious compositions, and capture the character and movement that bring a painting to life.

Designed for beginners through to experienced painters, the day balances technical guidance with intuitive mark-making, helping participants loosen their approach while gaining a deeper understanding of tone, colour relationships, brushwork, and observation.

Throughout the day, participants will complete smaller studies and exercises before working towards a resolved floral painting to take home.

The experience includes all artist materials, refreshments, and a shared banquet lunch at Mapleton Public House.

More than simply lunch, the banquet is part of the experience itself. Known for its seasonal, farm-led approach to food and spectacular Hinterland setting, Mapleton Public House celebrates the connection between land, community, and the table. Guests will enjoy a long, leisurely feast showcasing local produce and thoughtful cooking, a perfect complement to a day spent observing, creating, and slowing down.

A day to paint beautiful things, connect with fellow creatives, and immerse yourself in the joy of flowers.

Held only once or twice each year.
